FORT WORTH -- A 20-year-old woman was killed and the driver of a Coca-Cola truck was taken to the hospital Thursday after an accident closed traffic on Loop 820 at Blue Mound Road, police said.

Traffic on Loop 820 was still clogged both ways three hours after the wreck.

The woman was driving a white Buick sedan eastbound in the 1500 block of NE Loop 820 when she had to brake sharply for slow-moving traffic, police said. She lost control of her car and careened onto the shoulder and back into traffic, police said.

The 18-wheeler delivery truck struck the Buick broadside as it crossed the roadway, according to police. The impact knocked the Buick into the inside center cement barrier and the 18-wheeler broke through the barrier and landed on its side in the westbound lanes of traffic.

The driver of the Buick died at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital and was reported in stable condition late Thursday.

Loop 820 was closed in both directions between Interstate 35 and Blue Mound Road shortly after the 5:40 p.m. wreck.

On Interstate 35 near downtown, southbound motorists were also experiencing delays because of a stalled motor home in the right lane north of the Belknap Road exit that backed up traffic to Meacham Boulevard.
