Federal officials are investigating the crash of a single-engine plane in East Texas that killed a man from Arlington.

Ronald Vickers, 62, was found dead Monday in the wreckage of the aircraft that hit some power lines near a landfill between Longview and Kilgore, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Roland Herwig, an official with the Federal Aviation Administration, said the aircraft was a Probst Model Baby Ace D.

DPS Trooper Roy Tower described the plane as "experimental," or home-built.

Herwig said the crash would be investigated by the FAA, as well as officials from the National Transportation Safety Board office in Denver.

NTSB officials, however, could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

A landfill worker discovered the wreckage Monday afternoon.

AEP Southwestern Electric Power Co. spokesman Scott McCloud told the Longview News-Journal, for its online edition Tuesday, that the plane made contact with the power lines.

McCloud says no customers lost electricity following the accident.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
