Suspect in Plano hostage situation dies after officer shoots him

A man suspected of holding a hotel employee hostage has died from a gunshot fired by a Plano Police officer, according to reports.

The man, whose name was not available, was shot by an officer responding to a 911 call 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at the La Quinta Inn on U.S. 75, also called Central Expressway, police said.

When the officer arrived he saw what he believed was a robbery in progress, police said.

The suspect, police said, was holding the employee and threatening the person with a weapon, according to information released by the police department.

Officers, however, did not release whether the employee was man or a woman, and what type of weapon the suspect was holding.

The officer, however, ordered the suspect to drop it, but the man refused. The officer then shot the man, police said.

The officer and the hotel employee were unhurt. The suspect was taken to an area hospital, but he could not be saved, police said.
