Wounded man: Drug dealers mistook him for rival near Fort Worth shelter
A case of mistaken identity may have resulted in a man getting shot in the leg late Monday outside a homeless shelter in east Fort Worth, police said.
Police were called at 11:10 p.m. to the Presbyterian Night Shelter, 2400 Cypress St., to investigate a shooting.
They found a 54-year-old man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the left leg, said Lt. Paul Henderson, police spokesman.
"The victim told police that he believed he was mistaken for another person who normally stands on the corner of Cypress and East Presidio and sells drugs," Henderson said.
Officers learned that two groups of drug dealers are reportedly are in a dispute over the area.
"Last night two men occupying a white Chevrolet two-door Cavalier and two men occupying a dark blue four-door vehicle drove through the area and opened fire, striking the victim," Henderson said.
The man was taken in stable condition to John Peter Smith Hospital, he said. No arrests were reported.
