A 14-year-old boy was wounded in the left buttock late Sunday near his home in east Fort Worth while running from two teenage boys who demanded he give them his phone, police said.
The boy was taken to to Cook Children's Medical Center where he was in good condition late Sunday and expected to recover, said Lt. Paul Henderson, police spokesman.The shooting was reported at about 8:45 p.m. in the 5000 block of North Hampshire Boulevard. The neighborhood is a few blocks southwest of the intersection of East Lancaster Boulevard and East Loop 820.Responding officers found the boy in the street, wounded. His mother's boyfriend said he was inside his home when he heard gunshots, so he went outside and saw that his girlfriend's son had been shot, according to a police report.At the hospital, the boy told police that he was walking to a neighborhood convenience store when he "encountered five juveniles, one of which had a rifle, in the convenience store parking lot," Henderson said.Two of the people asked the teen if he had any money. He said "no" and they demanded his phone, responding officers said in their report."The suspect with the rifle pointed the barrel at the 14-year-old's head," Henderson said. He took off running, but he also said that it seemed like a "a long time" before shots were fired, police said in their report.But, after shots were fired, the boy was lying in the street and he thought the suspects ran past him. He did not get a good description of the rifle, police said.His mother's boyfriend said he saw people running, but he did not see if they had weapons.
