Police investigate two robberies in Fort Worth

Two men in hooded sweatshirts on Sunday robbed the Quik Sak convenience store, 4600 Diaz Ave. in west Fort Worth, police said.

A clerk told police the two men entered the store at 12:30 p.m. but she didn't think anything was unusual until she noticed one of them had a black bandanna covering his face, said Lt. Paul Henderson, police spokesman.

The man "slammed a backpack on the counter and told her to put all of the money in the backpack," Henderson said.

The woman told police she was startled and she paused, Henderson said. "It was then that the second hooded man held up a pistol which prompted the clerk to quickly start transferring the money from the register to the backpack," Henderson said. "After emptying out two registers the clerk was ordered to put a pack of cigars and cigarettes in the backpack as well."

The men walked out the store and no one was hurt, Henderson said, but they "got away with an undetermined amount of money."

Officers located a black sweatshirt in the alley but it is unclear if it was related to the robbery, Henderson said.

The clerk said the suspect with the backpack was a black man, 5 feet 2 inches tall, and 130 pounds. He wore a white hooded sweatshirt with designs on the sleeve and the black bandanna over his face.

The gunman, Henderson said, was a black man, 5 feet 11 inches tall and about 160 pounds. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt.

About seven hours later, officers responded to another robbery, this one at Bob's Food Mart, 4938 Jacksboro Highway, Henderson said.

A clerk told police that a single man approached the counter and asked to buy a cigar.

"As the clerk opened the cash register to take the man's $1 bill, the man put away his money and presented a pistol," Henderson said. "The suspect ordered the clerk to back away from the register.

"The gun-toting bandit then reached in and grabbed a handful of cash and left the store."

The clerk said the suspect was a black male in his early 20s, 5 feet 6 inches tall, who weighed about 140 pounds. He wore a black long-sleeve jacket, baggy black pants and a goatee.
