Selena fans in the Fort Worth area may find themselves squabbling over limited-edition, commemorative shopping bags being sold at two area H-E-B stores starting Friday.
Just 200 will be released to the stores in Granbury and Cleburne, said Julie Bedingfield of the H-E-B media relations office.
There will be 100 going on sale at each store for $2 apiece beginning at 9 a.m., according to an H-E-B news release. There is a limit of two bags per shopper.
The bags were sold out online as of noon Friday.
The reusable bags were designed in collaboration with Suzette Quintanilla, the late singer's sister. They feature two famous images of Selena with the title "Queen of Cumbia" in pink letters.
“We finally came up with something to give back to Selena’s fans but to also benefit Selena’s foundation,” Suzette Quintanilla told a Corpus Christi TV station.
H-E-B says that the bags are made of 100 percent recyclable material and that the grocery chain will donate $25,000 to the nonprofit Selena Foundation, which supports community and educational initiatives such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Bend.
H-E-B has been a co-sponsor of the annual Fiesta de la Flor music festival, a two-day event that celebrates the life of Selena in Corpus Christi, but has never offered a Selena shopping bag before, Beddington said.
