The new winner of The Voice hails from Texas.
Sundance Head, of the Houston suburb of Porter, was named champion of NBC’s singing competition TV show on Tuesday night.
Head, a country singer, is the son of Texas country musician Roy Head, and sang one of his father’s original songs, Treat Her Right, with his coach, Blake Shelton.
With the win, Head will get $100,000 and a record deal.
The Washington Post called Head’s win a surprise, saying runner-up Billy Gilman, a former child country star, was seen as the front-runner.
The season finale featured performances by the finalists, as well as Stevie Wonder, Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, KISS, John Legend, Sting, Kelly Clarkson and more.
Season 12 of The Voice returns in February with coaches Shelton, Adam Levine, Alicia Keys and Gwen Stefani.
