Police learned that the motorist had been driving a sport utility vehicle in circles in reverse behind the store. He drove that way for about two minutes before crashing into a large stack of wooden pallets near a loading dock, police said. The vehicle got stuck in the pallets, which caught fire and trapped the driver.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A ruling on the exact cause of death had not been made.
