A Tarrant County jury sentenced a 77-year-old Fort Worth man to seven years in prison Friday for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old female relative.
The girl occasionally stayed overnight with the defendant, Lester Fane Webb, and his wife while she was living with her great-grandparents in 2012, according to a news release from the Tarrant County district attorney’s office. The Webbs are also relatives.
After a time, the girl told her great-grandmother that she did not want to visit Webb anymore but would not say why, the release said. Eventually, she wrote on a piece of paper that “he has sex with me,” the release said.
The great-grandmother called Child Protective Services, and an investigation was launched, the release said. The girl told investigators that Webb “taught me how to have sex” and had sexual encounters with her on multiple occasions at his residence in Fort Worth and at a nearby community pool.
The child also described a pump that Webb used on himself. Detectives executed a search warrant at Webb’s residence and found two penile pumps similar to what the girl described, the release said.
Jurors convicted Webb on Thursday in state District Judge Elizabeth Beach’s court after deliberating all day, the release said. The jury deliberated less than an hour Friday before assessing the seven-year sentence.
Webb must serve half his sentence before becoming eligible for parole, the release said.
“Despite the defendant’s age and health, this case was not just about him but the legacy of child abuse he left with his victim,” said prosecutor Michele Hartmann, who presented the state’s case with Steve Gebhardt. “His actions will have a lifelong impact on her.”
