Man accused of stealing items from scene of Fort Worth fatal fire

A 76-year-old Fort Worth man was arrested over the weekend, accused of taking items from the scene of a fatal fire on Rockdale Road in Fort Worth, police say.

An elderly man has been charged with theft and accused of stealing from a home where a 9-year-old boy was killed last week in a fire that damaged most of the residence.

Police arrested Willie Ray Young, 76, of Fort Worth during the weekend after a resident called 911 to report that someone was taking items from the home in the 6600 block of Rockdale Road.

Young was charged Tuesday with theft of $500 to $1,500 and was free on $1,500 bail Wednesday. He could not be reached for comment.

On Aug. 14, a fire broke out in the home and killed David Ramirez. His three brothers escaped, but the blaze caused major damage to the home. Fire investigators have not ruled on a cause, but it was not intentionally set, Battalion Chief Richard Harrison said.

The family has been staying with an aunt in Fort Worth, said Italia DeLaCruz of Fort Worth, a family friend.

At 7:50 a.m. Saturday, a resident saw two men loading items from the house onto a truck. The resident called 911 and provided officers with a description of the vehicle and the men.

Officers searched the area and found the suspect’s truck. Items from the home were found in the back, Fort Worth officer Daniel Segura said in an email.

Police did not provide details about the second man.
