Two people were killed Friday afternoon when a twin-engine Cessna 414 crashed in an open field six miles northeast of Bowie, authorities said.
The dead were identified as the pilot, Lawrence Liptack, 51, of Manvel, and Landon Liptack, 10, said Trooper Tony Fulton, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Wichita Falls office.
It could not be confirmed whether the pilot and boy were related.
The aircraft was destroyed by fire after the crash about 3:40 p.m., according to a news release from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The pilot and boy were pronounced dead at the scene, Fulton said
FAA investigators were on their way to the crash site northwest of Denton, as were investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board, the release said.
