Video: Fast-food restaurants targeted in serial robbery spree

Fort Worth police are seeking Spergel “Ray” Polk in connection with 13 robberies at Subways, Wendy’s and more since last month.

Police are asking for the public’s help locating a suspected serial robber believed to be responsible for more than a dozen business robberies since last month, including four in the last four days.

Spergel LaRae Polk, also known by the alias “Ray”, is wanted on robbery warrants and parole violation, Fort Worth police said.

Polk, 50, is believed to have been behind the robbery of 13 businesses, mostly fast food restaurants, between July 5 and Wednesday.

In several of the robberies, employees told police, the robber passed a note demanding money. He, at times, displayed a gun or threatened that he had one, according to police reports.

In many of the earlier robberies, police say Polk had an accomplice: 53-year-old Darrell Dewayne Lawrence.

Lawrence was arrested Aug. 5. He remains in the Tarrant County Jail, formally charged in two of the robberies, court records show.

Since Lawrence’s arrest, police say Polk has continued the robberies alone.

This week, investigators believe he targeted four businesses: CVS at 4140 E. Lancaster Ave. on Monday; Church’s Chicken at 6500 Meadowbrook Drive on Tuesday; and Subway at 3012 E. Rosedale Street and Metro PCS at 3630 E. Rosedale Street on Thursday, police said.

Thursday’s robberies were just 15 minutes apart, according to police reports.

Court records show Polk has past convictions for burglary, theft and robbery.
