Arlington police have arrested one of the drivers involved in a three-vehicle crash that killed a woman Wednesday on Interstate 20.

Erica Hernandez, 23, faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in the early morning crash on I-20, east of South Collins Street, Arlington police spokesman Jeffrey Houston said.

Hernandez, whose town of residence wasn’t available, was arrested at a hospital where she was being treated for injuries.

Killed in the wreck was Elaine Plummer, 57. She was pronounced dead at 3:46 a.m. at Medical Center of Arlington. Her residence wasn’t reported by the medical examiner.

Plummer was eastbound in the 1900 block of Interstate 20 when her SUV was hit about 2:30 a.m. by an out-of-control car that had just rear-ended a tanker truck, Arlington police reported. Plummer’s SUV and the car struck the median.

She and the three occupants of the car were extricated by Arlington firefighters. The people in the car were taken to hospitals with serious injuries, according to Arlington police.

The tanker truck driver, who was not injured, stopped, police said.

It was the third fatal wreck in five days in Arlington.

Staff writers Gordon Dickson and Domingo Ramirez Jr. contributed to this report.
