The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department is cautioning residents not to be fooled by a caller who tells them to buy a prepaid credit card to pay off an arrest warrant.
The department got two complaints Tuesday from residents who said a caller identified himself as Lt. Tommy Donaldson and told them that an arrest warrant had been issued because they failed to appear in court. The caller said the residents could make the warrant go away if they sent money via a prepaid credit card
The caller told the residents to purchase Green Dot MoneyPaks and supply him with the code on the rear of the card. That would give the caller access to all the money on the card, the release said.
There is no one employed at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department named Tommy Donaldson and the department doesn’t do business that way, according to a news release.
