Missing Arlington elderly woman found dead

An 84-year-old woman went for a walk Saturday morning and never returned, but Arlington police do not suspect foul play in her death.

An 84-year-old woman found dead Saturday evening after she failed to return from a walk has been identified as Dahabo Elmi of Arlington, authorities said Sunday.

A ruling on her death is pending, but Arlington police do not suspect foul play.

Elmi was last seen about 9 a.m. Saturday when she left for a walk. She never came back to her home in the 2000 block of Mayfield Villa Drive in Arlington. The temperature reached 102 degrees at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport on Saturday afternoon, making it one of the hottest days of the year in North Texas.

Elmi’s family reported her missing at 5 p.m. Saturday, and Arlington police, Fort Worth Police Air One and the Search One Rescue Team with dogs searched for her.

Her body was found about 7:45 p.m. Saturday in a drainage canal in the 2000 block of East Mayfield Road in Arlington, less than a quarter-mile from home.
