East Loop 820 in Hurst closed after overhead gantry collapses

One of the metal structures holding directional signs above East Loop 820 in Hurst fell onto the roadway early Thursday after a pickup hit the base.

The high metal framework holding large green directional signs collapsed onto northbound lanes of East Loop 820 early Thursday after a suspected drunken driver hit the base of the structure, police said.

The structure, known as an overhead gantry, fell about 3 a.m. Northbound lanes were closed until just before 8 a.m.

The driver, who had minor injuries, was taken to a hospital, authorities said.
