The mother of an 18-month-old girl who police say was beaten and stomped to death before being buried in Parker County was arrested Tuesday night, Arlington police reported.
Alexis Botello, 17, was in the Arlington Jail facing charges of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and injury to a child, Lt. Christoper Cook, a police spokesman, said. Bail was set at $125,000.
Botello’s boyfriend, Joshua Markus Beard, 20, faces a capital murder charge in the death of Botello’s child, Tylea Moore. He was arrested Monday.
Police say Beard and Botello were at home in Arlington when Beard began pushing, yelling at and hitting the little girl. An arrest warrant affidavit says he threw Tylea hard on a bed then repeatedly stomped her in the stomach. Tylea stopped breathing and the couple tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but she died.
Botello told police she and Beard drove to Springtown, where they dug a grave and buried Tylea.
Tylea’s father, a U.S. Marine, returned to North Texas from California. Chris Moore told a WFAA reporter that Botello “was a wonderful mother.”
