Suspect arrested in Fort Worth slaying

Police believe that the victim and suspect, both patrons at the Que Paso Food Store at 1700 NW 28th St., were not strangers but had previous dealings with each other.

A 20-year-old Fort Worth man was in custody Tuesday, accused of shooting another man last week and then running over him with a vehicle in a convenience store parking lot.

Authorities identified the suspect as Sergio Andres Ayala, who was arrested Monday afternoon and faces a murder charge.

Ayala is accused of killing Fernando Lara-Martinez, 28, on July 1.

Police believe that the two, both patrons at the Que Paso Food Store at 1700 NW 28th St., had dealings with each other before the July 1 killing.

Homicide Sgt. Joe Loughman said the suspect shot the victim multiple times, then ran over him with the suspect’s car.

The suspect fled east on Northwest 28th.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Loughman said roughly 10 to 15 people saw a portion of the shooting.

MedStar officials have said one witness, an elderly woman, had to be treated for a medical reaction.
