A 26-year-old Cleburne woman was arrested in Dallas on Wednesday night on a warrant accusing her of stealing items including four decorative crosses from the front porch of a house in clear view of a security camera.
Authorities say Iris Carroll is the woman seen in the video taking her time about stealing crosses and a pair of wet Nikes.
Earlier Wednesday, Johnson County sheriff’s deputies arrested Carroll’s 43-year-old mother, Cathy Silva, at her Cleburne home, according to a news release from Sheriff Bob Alford.
At Silva’s house, investigators found several items that had been reported stolen, sheriff’s Capt. Mike Gilbert said.
Silva faces a charge of theft of property between $1,500 and $20,000. She was in the Johnson County jail Wednesday with bail set at $10,000.
Carroll faces four theft charges and was in the same jail. Her bail had not been set.
The video taken about 3:50 a.m. Monday was released by Kevin and Aleisha Jones, who live just east of Cleburne in unincorporated Johnson County. They posted the video on Facebook and released it to the media.
The video shows a woman walking up to the porch with sunglasses on her head and a cigarette in one hand, looking at the wall where the crosses hung.
“She looked like she was shopping at a store,” Aleisha Jones said.
The woman removed the crosses and then turned around and took the pair of youth Nikes.
The crosses and shoes were valued at $150.
The women’s arrests will clear about 12 cases reported to the Johnson County sheriff, and Joshua and Keene police, according to Alford’s news release.
