Dogs and rescue crews searched more than 900 acres at Lake Grapevine Sunday, but failed to find a missing Roanoke bicyclist last seen Saturday morning at the lake’s Murrell Park, authorities said.
More than 200 police, firefighters, rescue crews, friends and family members combed the lake by land, air and watercraft over the weekend for 30-year-old Wesley Hixson of Roanoke.
Hixson was involved in a crash on a trail and may have suffered a head injury, though he was wearing a helmet, Flower Mound police Capt. Richard Brooks said Sunday.
Hixson was last seen about 10 a.m. Saturday, when he separated from his riding partner on the trails, Brooks said. Hixson’s vehicle was found at the lake’s Rockledge Park, and his cellphone was in the vehicle.
He was reported missing shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday.
Flower Mound bike patrol officers, Search One Rescue Team dogs, volunteers, a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter and Flower Mound firefighters searched for most of Saturday, but failed to find any clues.
On Sunday, Arlington firefighters, officials with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Lewisville police, Mansfield firefighters, Denton County deputies, Grapevine firefighters and volunteer teams from Denton County, Flower Mound and Arlington joined the search.
“These search efforts will continue as needed,” Brooks said in an email Sunday. “While we are continuing our search efforts, our hope is that he has made his way outside of the park and is safe and secure.”
Hixson is 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs about 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, sunglasses and a black helmet.
Anyone with information should call Flower Mound police at 972-539-0525.
