An off-duty Arlington police officer fatally shot a man early Sunday outside a Duncanville restaurant, deputies said Sunday.

The shooting occurred about 12:40 a.m. near Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen at East U.S. 67 and Cockrell Hill Road, authorities said. The man was taken to a hospital where he died, Dallas County sheriff’s spokeswoman Carmen Castro said.

She said an investigation is ongoing but provided no details of the shooting.

Arlington police officials said they learned about it early Sunday.

“Since this is an ongoing investigation, no statements will be released,” Sgt. Jeffrey Houston said Sunday in an email.

Dallas County sheriff’s investigators have opened a criminal inquiry. Arlington police are conducting an administrative investigation of the officer, whom authorities did not identify.
