A wrong-way driver was killed and three people were injured in a three-vehicle wreck early Wednesday on Northwest Loop 820, police said.

The driver of an Isuzu Trooper was traveling east in westbound lanes in the 3100 block of the loop when the Trooper and a work van collided head-on, police reported. A Kia sedan then struck one or both of the vehicles.

The Trooper driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:28 a.m. He was identified as Jesse Eithun, 34, by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. No home address was listed.

The van driver was pinned in the vehicle until firefighters could pull him out, police said. He was taken by helicopter ambulance to a hospital in critical condition. The occupants of the Kia, a 72-year-old woman and a 32-year-old woman, were taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said. None of their conditions could be learned later Wednesday.

Investigators were trying to determine how Eithun got in the wrong lanes and whether alcohol was a factor.
