Woman arrested in shooting death of Fort Worth man

Lakeeshia Wright, 31, faces a murder charge, police said.

A 22-year-old man was shot to death early Tuesday in an apartment after getting into an argument with his roommate, police said.

The victim was identified as George Esquivel of Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website. He was pronounced dead in the living room of the apartment.

Police arrested Lakeeshia Wright, 31, of Fort Worth early Tuesday in connection with the slaying, Fort Worth police Capt. Scott Conn said in an email. She is facing a murder charge, he said.

The shooting was reported about 12:55 a.m. Tuesday at the Sandy Oaks Apartments, 1559 Sandy Lane in east Fort Worth.

The woman and Esquivel got into an argument that escalated and Esquivel was shot, Conn said. Police did not release details about the argument. The two were roommates, police said.

Police found a gun in a nearby field that may have been used in the shooting.

A small amount of a substance believed to be marijuana was found on Wright as she was being booked into jail early Tuesday, police Sgt. Raymond Bush said in an email. She faces an additional charge of possessing a prohibited substance in a correctional facility, police said.
