A man died after being struck by a car while trying to cross the street just east of downtown early Friday.

Officers were called about 2:15 a.m. to the 2300 block of South Riverside Drive near East Powell Avenue on a report of a hit-and-run accident, according to police.

When they arrived they found the driver involved in the wreck had remained at the scene, police said. Officials with the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office pronounced Marlon Carrington, 41, of Fort Worth, dead about 2:20 a.m.

Carrington’s death was ruled an accident due to blunt force trauma of the head, a press release from the medical examiner’s office said.

Officers from the Fort Worth Traffic Investigations Unit arrived to process the crash scene, police said. Authorities do not foresee any charges being brought against the driver of the vehicle, police said.
