Driver killed in fiery Grand Prairie crash

The sport utility vehicle went onto the shoulder and clipped a disabled tractor-trailer, police said.

A motorist died Saturday night, trapped in a wrecked sport utility vehicle that caught fire on a Grand Prairie highway, police said.

Authorities did not release the name of the driver Sunday.

The victim died about 9:15 p.m. Saturday on eastbound Interstate 30 near Belt Line Road in Grand Prairie.

Witnesses told Grand Prairie police that the driver of a 2006 Ford Escape had been driving erratically when the vehicle went onto the shoulder of the highway and clipped the back of a disabled tractor-trailer. On impact, the SUV overturned and caught fire, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. The truck driver was in the cab awaiting repair assistance, police said.

The accident was the second traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
