Fire destroys Lakeside water department office and shop

The fire was reported about 6:15 p.m. at the water department facility on Watercress Drive.

Fire destroyed the offices and the shop of the city of Lakeside’s water department Friday evening, the town’s mayor said.

The fire was reported about 6:15 p.m. at the facility on Watercress Drive.

Firefighters from Lakeside, Lake Worth, Saginaw, Eagle Mountain and River Oaks helped bring the fire under control, Mayor Pat Jacob said.

“All those guys just did an outstanding job,” he said. “It was a very hot fire.”

No one was hurt, he said.

A lot of equipment was lost in the shop, but a full assessment of the loss won’t be completed until early next week, Jacob said.

The cause of the blaze had not been determined late Friday, Jacob said.
