Burglary suspect shot Sunday by off-duty Arlington officer

An off-duty officer came across a burglary suspect at an apartment complex Sunday morning, police said.

An off-duty Arlington police officer wounded a burglary suspect Sunday morning at an apartment complex during a confrontation, an Arlington police official said.

The officer, who was not identified, came across a commercial alarm at an apartment complex business office and saw the front door ajar, police Sgt. Jeff Houston said Sunday in an email.

“The officer saw a burglary suspect inside,” Houston said. “The officer confronted the suspect, who refused to comply with commands.”

The shooting occurred seconds later.

The suspect fled and drove away, but he was stopped nearby by other officers. The suspect was taken to Medical Center of Arlington with injuries that are not life-threatening, Houston said.

The shooting occurred about 6 a.m. Sunday in the 5900 block of Valley Creek Lane in Arlington.

The officer involved was placed on routine administrative leave pending an internal investigation, Houston said.

Police did not released the name of the suspect.
