Authorities on Tuesday released the name of the man killed Sunday afternoon in a wreck near Texas Motor Speeway in which his wife and two children were injured.
David Martinez, 46, was identified Monday by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. The city in which the family lives was not listed.
A Fort Worth church administrator on Tuesday said Martinez’s wife, Jenna, and their two children were on their way to Calvary Cathedral International when the wreck occurred.
“They love God, and they’re people of strong faith,” Charlie Prior said. “They were faithful in attendance to church and faithful to our community outreach. They’re just a fine family. We love them and we’re going to care for them.”
A daughter, estimated to be 8 or 9, was taken by helicopter ambulance in critical condition to Cook Children’s Medical Center, according to media reports.
Jenna Martinez and a teenage son were taken to local hospitals, police said.
The crash occurred about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of Texas 114 in far north Fort Worth near Texas Motor Speedway. The area is in the portion of the city that extends into Denton County.
A teenager driving a Dodge four-door vehicle ran a stop sign, a police spokeswoman said. The southbound Dodge and the Honda, which was eastbound on Texas 114, collided.
The Dodge had three passengers, all 16 to 18, police said. The driver and two passengers were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
