A 26-year-old man was arrested early New Year’s morning after being accused of shooting a wrecker driver who wouldn’t let him ride in a car that was being towed.
Shane Crowson was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
The wrecker driver, who was not identified by police, was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.
At 4:42 a.m., police were dispatched to a shooting in north Fort Worth in the 6800 block of the South Freeway service road.
Officers were told that three men sought a wrecker service after having car problems, said officer Sharron Neal, a police spokeswoman.
When the wrecker arrived, arrangements were made for one man to ride in the wrecker’s cab, Neal said. But the other two would be left and would not be allowed to sit in the car that was being towed, she said.
Crowson apparently became upset, pulled out a gun and fired once at the tow truck as it left, hitting the driver, Neal said.
