A mother is in jail, accused of stabbing her 3-year-old son over the weekend. The boy is receiving medical care at Cook Children’s Medical Center.

The mother, Nadia Douglas, 33, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious bodily injury to a child. She was being held Monday afternoon in the Mansfield Jail with bail set at $500,000.

The child’s condition was not available Monday.

Officers responding to a call about 8 p.m. Saturday found Douglas alone with the child. She told them she stabbed him, Sgt. Kelly Peel, a Fort Worth police spokesman, said in an email.

The 3-year-old was bleeding heavily when police found him at the Spring Garden Apartments in the 3200 block of St. Juliet Street, Peel said. The motivation for the attack is under investigation.

The case will be investigated by Texas Child Protective Services, agency spokeswoman Marissa Gonzales said.

“We don’t have a whole lot of details because we are letting the police do their investigating,” Gonzales said.

CPS did not have any previous complaints on Douglas, Gonzales said, and no other children were involved.

The 3-year-old will probably go into foster care when he is released from the hospital, Gonzales said.
