A motorist was killed early Sunday in a two-vehicle wreck on the South Freeway, police said.

The driver, whom authorities did not identify, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The wreck was reported just before 3 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the 1700 block of the South Freeway.

A 2003 Toyota Matrix had just pulled into traffic out of a safety zone when it was hit by a pickup driven by the victim, police said. The pickup struck the back of the Toyota, police said.

On impact, the pickup rolled onto its left side and the victim was thrown partway through the driver’s window, police said.

No other injuries were reported.
