The Brock Eagles' best baseball season since 2012 came to an end late last week as they were swept by Van Alstyne, 4-3 and 7-2, in the Class 3A Region II finals.
The Eagles finished 27-9, coming up short of their first state tournament since 2012.
It was also the end of a very successful first season for head coach Hart Herring.
"It was a special season for us. We made a great run," Herring said. "I'm proud of the kids and the way they battled all throughout the season. They showed a tremendous amount of determination."
Never miss a local story.
The Eagles held leads late in both games against Van Alstyne (33-2). In the opener Brock led 3-2 before giving up the tying run in the fifth and winning run in the bottom of the seventh. In the second game, Brock led 2-1 before surrendering six runs in the top of the seventh.
Brock had swept its first four playoff series. This included a thrilling 4-3 and 5-4 triumph over Parker County rival Peaster in the third round.
"Even though we didn't reach our ultimate goal of winning a state championship, we have a lot to be proud of," Herring said. "Making the regional finals and winning four playoff series is a big accomplishment."
The Eagles extended their streak of playoff appearances to 16 consecutive seasons. They have reached at least the second round 12 straight years.
