The Aledo Ladycats (34-13) are once again advancing deep in the volleyball playoffs, reaching the third round of the Class 5A Region I postseason with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-21 win over Birdville (33-9) at Mansfield Summit High School Friday.
Sarah Morehead posted a second consecutive double-double with 13 assists and 10 digs.
The Ladycats will next play Grapevine (21-15) in the regional quarterfinals Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Saginaw High School.
"We were able to control the serve and serve-receive game and got into a rhythm offensively and defensively throughout the match, and fought hard to finish Game 3," Aledo coach Claire Gay said. "We got all our offensive players involved and did a good job keeping them guessing where the ball was going."

This is the eighth consecutive season in which the Ladycats have reached at least the second round of the playoffs.
▪ Today, the Peaster Lady Greyhounds (30-13) will face Tuscola Jim Ned (8-23) in a Class 3A Region I area-round match at 1 p.m. in Eastland.
