Recently, the City of Weatherford launched a new smartphone mobile app called “Weatherford 311 .”
The free, simple tool gives residents the ability to identify civic issues and report them to the city for a quick resolution.
Austin Nichols, City of Weatherford GIS Analyst, said, the app uses the built-in GPS in a smartphone to automatically report the problem’s location.
“[This simplifies] the reporting process while increasing the reliability of the problem area for service crews," he added.
Users can collect pictures, video or audio to submit with the report, improving the efficiency by which city departments deploy resources to correct the submitted request.
Weatherford 311 users will be able to report problems for the city to address, including but not limited to:
• Busted sidewalks;
• Water leaks;
• Street light outages;
• Abandoned vehicles;
• Stray animals;
• Consumer health complaints.
With the potential challenges faced by a growing city, Nichols said, Weatherford 311 will help the City of Weatherford become a “connected community through the use of technology.”
“The simplicity of the application ensures that all citizens have the opportunity to report issues and make a difference in their community," he said.
In addition to empowering residents to take an active role in improving their community, Weatherford 311 will also provide an opportunity for the city to use technology to save time and money plus increase transparency and accountability.
“Ultimately, it creates a positive, collaborative solution for real action that engages citizens and streamlines government procedures,” Nichols said.

Reports can also be created from a desktop computer at the City of Weatherford website, www.ci.weatherford.tx.us, under the Service Request tab.
