It began Tuesday at 8 a.m. that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) temporarily closed FM 1884 to reconstruct a portion of the roadway. The road will be closed temporarily for a week, starting a mile south of Melody lane to Thompson Road. Motorists may detour to Tin Top Road and Thompson Road. A section of the road will be lowered approximately 8 feet.

“This work is difficult to construct under live traffic,” Parker County Area Engineer John Cordary said. “We looked at the options and determined that the safest and most efficient way to complete the work was to close the road for a short duration.”

The contractor has seven days to complete the work and is allowed to work 24 hours a day. The contractor can obtain a bonus if the work is completed before the seven day deadline and will be fined for not meeting the milestone.

The $6.4 million project will add shoulders to the roadway add left turn lanes at several intersections and replace the bridge over Sanchez Creek. Project completion is planned for 2014.
