For the first time ever, Aledo High School has a state monument in place for a Fine Arts achievement. The 2014-15 AHS Wind Ensemble was named the State 5A Honor Band Champion, as well as the National Winner of the Foundation of Music Education Mark of Excellence/National Wind Band Honors Contest.
“Aledo is definitely known for its sports accomplishments, and we have quite a few state monuments to prove that,” said Director of Bands Joey Paul. “I’m extremely proud to be part of a school district that also recognizes our students’ achievements in academics and the fine arts, and especially these students who were named state champions in band.”
Paul said it takes hours and hours of hard work and dedication to achieve an honor of this stature, just like it does for athletes. “That our booster club members and other donors contributed to the expense of this award is a tribute to the energy and effort of our students and directors.”
The monument was erected just before school began this year. Students pictured are those who were part of the award-winning Wind Ensemble. Those named but not pictured have graduated and gone on to college and other endeavors.
