Elizabeth Allcon, a Functional Academics teacher at Vandagriff Elementary School, has been named Aledo ISD’s 2015 Jack Harvey Fellowship Award nominee as part of the Jack Harvey Academy of Exemplary Teachers. Sponsored by Weatherford College, the exemplary-teacher award recognizes teaching excellence among educators from the college’s partner schools.
Allcon said she is passionate about leveling the playing field for kids with special needs in the regular classroom.
“Every day is a new day with these kids whose abilities are so wide-ranging,” she said. “I have incredible assistants, and we feel blessed by our students every day.”
Principal at Vandagriff Stephanie Adams said Allcon has an amazing ability to see a situation and make it more accessible for our special-needs students.
“She is very knowledgeable in her teaching field. Our teachers are lucky to benefit from her experience,” Adams said.
Allcon is a 1991 graduate of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Prior to joining Aledo ISD, she taught in Azle ISD for 14 years. She has been with Aledo for 10 years, and has spent nine of those at Vandagriff Elementary.
