The 2013-14 school year has been filled with blessings galore for Weatherford Christian School, a local non-denominational Christian school, and just recently the school received yet another gift they hope will put them one step closer to finishing their gymnasium, located on the secondary campus at 2300 Ranger Hwy.
A local resident and avid classic car collector in Parker County heard that WCS was planning a large outdoor concert and car show and wanted to lend a helping hand so they donated a completely restored 1955 Chevy half-ton short bed pickup, valued at over $20,000, that will be raffled off at the upcoming Greg Welch Summer Classic Concert and Car Show on Fri., May 23, at the school’s secondary campus.
Raffle tickets are being sold for $50 each by WCS students, at both campus offices, First National Bank Weatherford and other various locations between now and the event. The highly-anticipated concert and car show was created in order to help the Christian school finish the Greg Welch Gymnasium in remembrance of Staci Lee, Mandi McWhorter, Lacey Osina and Whitney Welch.
The event will feature Texas country musician and headline entertainer Aaron Watson with opening acts from local and talented favorites Garrett Bradford and Wynn Williams. The other “exciting aspect” to the evening is a display of classic cars, provided mostly by the Parker County Cruisers with local car collectors joining in as well. There will be vendor booths to enjoy shopping and local business information, a kid’s area for downtime and play and BBQ sandwiches will be for sale provided by Mesquite Pit. This is a family friendly, non-alcoholic event. All proceeds from the event and raffle will go toward the completion of the Greg Welch Gymnasium. Tickets for general admission 13 and over are $25 and 12 and under get in FREE with a canned food item for the Center of Hope. Otherwise, they are $10 each. Sponsorships and vendor booths are still available but are filling quickly and vendor space is limited.
Weatherford Christian School would like to personally thank their presenting sponsor Chicken Express for helping to make this event possible, as well as the other generous sponsors and underwriters who have all played such an important role in making this dream a reality: IAS Logistics & Bryant Grain Company – Open Champion Sponsors, Scott Welch Family, LLC – Non-Pro Sponsorship, Polaris Services, LLC, Rangaire Mfg., Tuffy’s Air Conditioning & Heating Service, PlainsCapital Bank – Amateur Sponsors, Jeff & Margaret McCoy – Diamond M Ranch, and Texas Tire Sales – Youth Champion Sponsors, Chemical Weed Control, Select Energy, Slick Rock, LP, Welch Ranches and NCHA – Event Underwriters.
