Where will residents from Parker County once again have an opportunity to turn out for what has become a tradition - every third week in February - for the last 58 years? If you guessed the Rotary Club of Weatherford‘s annual “Pancake Supper,” your guess was right.
The event itself helps supports the Rotary Club's effort to promote literacy and wellness programs within the greater Weatherford area. More specifically, the Pancake Supper is the club's primary means of funding the scholarships it provides to area students which allows them to pursue college degrees. “Area” means students of any school in Parker County.
In the past seven years, the club has awarded scholarships to more than 85 students from the Weatherford community. The funds raised at the event also enable local Rotarians to support local charities and service organizations such as Meals-on-Wheels and the Texas Pythian Home.
Darren Donaldson, Pancake Event Coordinator and Rotary President Elect, said more than 1,600 usually attended this annual event.
“I’m so honored to be coordinator of this event this year,” he said. “I have a great team to work with that makes it a lot of fun.”
Donaldson said some of the added entertainment to this year’s event will be a sponsored “pancake eating contest,” a performance from the WISD drum-line and a bounce house for the little ones.
"We had a tremendously successful Pancake Supper last year and I hope the folks from Parker County turn out again," he said.
He added that the entire club came together, as it always does, to put on "the" community event of the year.
All told, thousands of pancakes along with hundreds of pounds of bacon and sausage will be served to attendees - all in less than three hours.
Corporate partners for the event include: Jerry Durant Auto Group, Walmart of Weatherford, IHOP, First National Bank-Weatherford, Oak Farms Dairy, PlainsCapital Bank, Progressive Waste Solutions, Texas Butane Company, QuickPrint of Weatherford, Mesquite Pit, Chicken Express, First Financial Bank, Subway of Aledo, Aaron’s Catering and Hugh and Cissie Bradberry.
The Rotary Club of Weatherford thanks all of these partners for their support of Pancake Supper 2014.
