Go and learn what it takes to “Grow Your Own Parker County Peaches” at an informative program to be presented on Thursday.
This program, which was originally scheduled in December but postponed due to the ice storm, will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center meeting room, 604 North Main in Weatherford starting at 6:30 p.m., said Jon Green, County Extension Agent - Ag. Cost for the program is $10 per person - cash or check only - and is payable at the door.
Guest speaker Bob Whitney, a retired County Extension Agent who now lives in Comanche, is well known for his work in fruit crops and pecans. He, along with Green, will discuss site preparation, recommended varieties, planting and training young trees, fertility and water requirements, tree pruning, controlling insects and disease, thinning the crop and harvesting, as well as answering audience questions.
For those attending with a pesticide applicator license, 1 CEU will be offered toward their re-certification.
Hosted by the Parker County Extension Ag. Committee and the Parker County office of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Green invites all area residents interested in peach growing to attend.
Educational programs of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, disability, religion, age or national origin. Individuals with disabilities who require an auxiliary aid, service, or accommodation in order to participate in this meeting are encouraged to contact the Parker County office of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service at 817-598-6168 for assistance.
