AHS Senior Joseph Barbeau has achieved recognition as a National Merit Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
He plans to attend a Texas college and major in computer science with the goal of becoming a software engineer.
Barbeau is one of approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide who will now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. These winners will be announced between April and July 2016. The scholarship recipients will join more than 315,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance. It was established in 1955 to conduct the NMS program and honor the nation’s scholastic champions while encouraging them in the pursuit of academic excellence.
