Texas AgriLife Extension of Parker County will host a Food Preservation Workshop on Friday, June 16. The class will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will cost $25. This included canning materials, and recipes. The workshop will be held at the Couts United Methodist Church, located at 802 North Elm Street, in the gym kitchen.
The workshop will be helpful for beginners and those who need a refresher course in the art and science of food preservation. For those who are fearful of preserving food the workshop will have information about the “how and why” of preserving food at home and will include hands on activities that include safely canning vegetables and fruits. There will be a focus on canning safety, types of equipment to us and proper canning methods.
Participants who have pressure canners or water bath canners are asked to bring their canners in case they are needed for the workshop. Canner gauge testing will be available for those who need theirs tested as well.
A second workshop on Making Jams and Jellies will take place on Friday, June 30. This class will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the County Extension office located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. The cost is also $25. Participant will learn about different ways to safely make and preserve jams and jellies.
