Is Texas' recent luck in big recent lottery drawings encouraging? Or is our run destined to come to an end soon?
If it helps push you in either direction, two more lucky millionaires were minted this week, this time even closer to home than the pair of Houston-area Mega Millions second-tier winners on Friday Jan. 5.
A Burleson resident claimed a $1 million Powerball prize Wednesday after matching all five of the first numbers drawn in Saturday's drawing, missing only on the Powerball, according to Texas Lottery officials.
The winning numbers in that drawing were 12 — 29 — 30 — 33 — 61, and the Powerball was 26. The Burleson winner purchased the winning ticket at a 7-Eleven convenience store on North Burleson Blvd.
And a Parker County resident who bought a jackpot-winning Lotto Texas ticket for the Dec. 16 drawing claimed a $5.5 million prize, according to a separate Texas Lottery news release. The winner is a resident of Poolville, a small town in northern Parker County, east of Springtown.
That ticket came from Peaster Grocery and Grill, on Farm Road 920. Donna Currie, a manager at the store, said it was the first big winner they had ever sold.
