Keller area tennis tournament scheduled this month
The Keller Alliance Tennis Charter (KATCH) is scheduled to host its Mid-Cities Tournament July 26 at Keller High School.
KATCH is a community tennis association with players from Keller, Haslet, Southlake and other surrounding communities. Its goal is to “grow the game” of tennis in the area, according to the organization’s website.
Nancy King, KATCH representative, said the Mid-Cities tournament is designed for boys and girls ages 10-18.
King also noted the group is looking to start a men’s doubles league which would compete in the evenings at Keller High. She said the women’s league will not ramp up until September.
More information on KATCH can be found at www.kellertexastennis.org or by calling King at 817-680-5502.
Keller lacrosse awaits division assignment
The recent success of the Keller lacrosse team is presenting its own challenges.
With the Keller team winning the state’s Division II title, the team will learn at the end of the month whether they will be bumped up to Division I.
The larger division should not bother the mindset of the squad. Keller will have nine returning starters among 55 players trying out for the team’s remaining 21 varsity slots.
The quality of the team has proven itself, as Keller moved six graduating seniors on to collegiate programs. Those playing for college programs include: Bevan Pate to Young Harris, Ga.; Calder Toler, Alderson Broaddus University, W.V.; Dakota Butler, Southwestern University, Texas; Cameron Peterman, Mount Union College, Ohio; Jake Hamilton, Texas State’s club lacrosse; and Dalton Mills, University of Oklahoma club lacrosse.
