On the strength of two shutout wins last week, Keller moved ahead of Timber Creek in the girls soccer standings.
Keller, 7-1-1, beat Central, 3-0 and Fossil Ridge, 4-0, to break the tie with Timber Creek, as the Lady Falcons dropped a tough 1-0 game to league-leading Carroll.
Scoring goals for Keller in the Fossil Ridge game were Faith Bonifant, Berklee Peters, Ryan Stickney and Isabella Vaughn.
Stickney had scored two goals in the win over Central, while Gabriella Coleman notched the other goal for Keller.
The remainder of the district schedule will be key to both Keller and Timber Creek to determine the final seedings.
Keller had Haltom early in the week, but weather may push the game to another day. Friday, though, is Keller’s chance to knock off Carroll.
Timber Creek was to have Richland and then Northwest on Friday. The Lady Falcons, 6-2-1, with five games remaining, still needed two games to mathematically clinch a playoff spot.
Lady Falcons head coach Mike King said once they get past the two games in front of them, they have sights set on the Keller rematch game. The first game between the teams resulted in a scoreless tie.
The game on March 18 may well be the deciding game to determine the second place seed from District 4-5A.
Timber Creek took their own shot at Carroll last week but lost a close 1-0 contest.
“We made one mistake and they capitalized on it,” King said. “You just can’t make mistakes against them.”
The Lady Falcons’ success lately has come on converting the offensive chances presented to them.
“We’re actually finishing our chances when we get them and our defense continues to be pretty tough,” King said. “We should hit the playoffs on a roll. We’re finally putting a whole game together. It’s good timing.”• Central still has a vision for the playoffs and has Fossil Ridge early in the week and then Richland on Saturday. The Lady Chargers are fighting off other contenders for the final and fourth spot in the district.
• Fossil Ridge has the Haltom game on Tuesday and then will host Haltom on Friday.
