GameStop exceeds expectations with in-store donation program benefiting Make-A-Wish

During the month of May, customers at more than 4,200 U.S. GameStop and Spring Mobile store locations had the opportunity to help Make-A-Wish grant wishes.
According to the Grapevine-based corporation, America’s gamers far surpassed GameStop Corporation’s original $100,000 goal by nearly 200 percent.
GameStop and its new technology retail brand, Spring Mobile, raised more than $300,000 to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
With each GameStop in-store, online or Spring Mobile in-store purchase, customers had the ability to donate to Make-A-Wish. GameStop has been a supporter of Make-A-Wish since 2006, and this was the company’s first in-store donation program.
“In typical GameStop fashion, we set a goal and then beat it by a long shot. What an incredible accomplishment for the GameStop family,” Rob Lloyd, chief financial officer of GameStop and Make-A-Wish North Texas board member, said in a news release.
GameStop and Make-A-Wish have a long-standing relationship, which has enabled the world’s leading video game retailer and more than 40,000 of its associates to support more than 1,000 video gaming and shopping spree wishes. Each week, four to five wish kids specifically request to shop at GameStop as part of their wish.
“Wish experiences can be game-changers for both wish kids and their families as they battle their illness. A wish-come-true can empower wish kids in a number of ways,” said David Williams, president and chief executive officer of Make-A-Wish America. “GameStop has become an integral part of helping us grant wishes. Having GameStop as a sponsor is a natural fit, because their corporate giving focus is on improving youth well-being, and our wish kids loveGameStop.”
The campaign brings GameStop’s total contributions to more than $1.7 million through holiday promotions, gift card donations, and other in-kind contributions since 2006. GameStop continues to grow its mobile and technology business and this campaign is the first time that GameStop and Spring Mobile have joined forces to raise money for Make-A-Wish.
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
