The Carroll baseball team has made deep runs into the playoffs each of the last two seasons, and with a strong first half of district competition and talented corps of players, there is no reason to think that this season should be any different.

The Dragons were 7-1 on the season in district competition heading into Tuesday's game against Keller Timber Creek, and had won their last three games in a row.

Carroll defeated Haltom last Tuesday by a score of 5-0 to wrap up the first half of District 4-5A competition with a 6-1 mark.

Ben Leeper earned the victory for the Dragons, throwing a four-hit shut out along the way.

Hudson Sanchez homered in the game for Carroll, while Barry Casey and Garrett Hale both tripled in the game for the Dragons.

Drew Brown, Joe Heineman and Eric Cole all doubled in the game for Carroll.

On Friday, Carroll followed up that victory with a 7-0 shut-out win against Keller Central.

This time, it was Heineman's turn to throw a four-hit shut out, and he also doubled in the game.

Eric Cole tripled in the game for the Dragons, and Heineman improved to 6-0 on the season with a .578 ERA and 67 strikeouts with the victory.

Carroll is currently the third-ranked team in the state of Texas, according to the Texas High School Baseball Association, with an overall record of 21-2 heading into Tuesday's game.

The Dragons have been knocked out of the playoffs each of the last two seasons by Arlington Martin in the fifth round to just miss the state tournament.

The Carroll baseball team played Keller Timber Creek on Tuesday night after the press deadline and will travel to take on Richland at 7 p.m. on Friday.
