Celebrity Chefs to cook up dollars for charity

It is a new year with a new beginning. But we still must remember that for some, 2014 brings many of the same challenges as last year.

However, we as a community can make a difference.

First for 2014 is Celebrity Chefs, which is slated for 6-10 p.m. Sunday at the Hurst Conference Center at 1601 Campus Drive in Hurst.

I have attended this event year after year and I can go on record as saying it has always been the best way to kick off a new year. First of all, just by attending, you are already making a difference in the lives of those impacted by the horrors of domestic violence.

Then there is the event itself. Just title this event as “fun.”

Many of our communities best chefs will be sharing their finest creations for you to enjoy. Plus there are libations.

The chefs include Charles Youts from The Classic at Roanoke (formally known as the Classic Café at Roanoke), Jerrett Joslin from the Wild Mushroom, Andrew Huszar from Tastefully Yours, Robert Bleibtrey from the Hurst Conference Center, Donatella Trotti from Nonna Tata, Brian Olenjack’s Grille from Olenjack’s, Jason Harper from Trio New American Café, Otto Borsich from Central Market, Hans Bergmann from Cacharel, Todd Phillips from J.R.’s Steakhouse, Janet Capua from Z’s Café, Deb Cantrell from Savor Culinary Services, Chris Wilson from Market Street, non-chef Sally Bolick Strong and Mike Swirczynski from Bravo!! Catering and Event Planning, Kyle Jones from Truluck’s, Susan Clark from Sweet Memories Cakes and Catering, Jon Bonnell from Bonnell’s Fine Texas Cuisine and Carleen Anderson from Nosredna Boutique Catering Co.

Co-chairs Tara Hutchins-Welsh and Katie White — along with their committee, Alma Barry, Kathy Rynearson, Fonda Martin, Mary MacDowell, Beth Battles, Patti Campbell, Mary Hubbard, Renny Hostetler, Martha Ragsdale, Deanna Stuart, Jodie Munsie, Sally Bustamante, Stephanie Drenka, Laurel Harty, Anna Saunders, Lisa Tapper, Linda Timmons and Jane Wood — have been burning the midnight cooking oil just to make this event Top Chef perfect.

I have heard that a local jazz band, Just Jazz, which features Bob Putnam, Lynn Putnam, Mike Scoma, Dick Max, Gary Strother, Ron Latimer and Chris Koss, has joined in on the fun and is donating its time so that the ambiance of the room will be as rich as the food. Nice job Just Jazz.

This event always sells out, but a little birdie told me that there are still seats available. Tickets are $125 each and can be purchased by going to their website, www.celebrity-chefs.org and clicking on “here” located under the word “reservations,” located under the photos.

It seems to me that if you start off 2014 with a bit of fun while making a difference in someone else’s life, you start off the year on the right path!
