The city is moving ahead with plans to extend Meadow Park trail to the Boys Ranch.
Construction began last week on the extension, which will stretch from the Bark Park to the Bedford Boys Ranch.
Parks superintendent Don Henderson said the $153,000 project should be finished by the end of the year.
Drivers will need to watch for alternate lane closings near Harwood and Forest Ridge and at the entrance to the Boys Ranch activity center.
The trail extension is one of the last projects from a $35.4 million bond package that voters approved in 2001.
The 1.5-miles trail runs from Woodpark Dr. on the east side of Bedford to the Bark Park on Meadow Park. The extension will add 2,330 linear feet, continuing from Meadow Park to Forest Ridge Drive.
Henderson said that sidewalks will be redone at Harwood and Forest Ridge, and new wheelchair ramps will be added.
Natalie Foster, a spokeswoman for the city said the trail is part of Bedford’s mission.
“This is such a good idea now because people like the walking and biking,” she said. “We want to provide a very safe and friendly community in Bedford.”
